Provide Your Input on the Development of the City’s Urban Agriculture Strategy
The City of Mississauga is looking for input on the development of anUrban Agriculture Strategy through anonline survey launching today. The strategy will help identify the City’s role in supporting efforts to increase urban-scale food production across Mississauga.
Urban agriculture is the practice of growing, processing, sharing and distributing food within the city. Examples of urban agriculture can include growing fruits, herbs and vegetables, nurturing pollinator habitats and selling artisanal products.
The strategy will help Mississauga mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change by enhancing community-level resilience and preparedness. It will also provide opportunities for the City to encourage healthier lifestyles, empower residents to learn new skills about growing and harvesting produce and support local businesses to develop ties to urban agriculture.

Deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, May 9, 2021.
The development of the Urban Agriculture Strategy will be a collaborative effort, informed by community consultation. It will include public outreach, opportunities for community input and feedback, survey data and research.

I just wanted to provide you with an update on winter access to The Toronto Golf Club so you can advise the OHHA members…
As you know, access to the Club property remains closed from Monday to Friday for the month of February due to course tree work and construction that is ongoing. The length of this closure will depend on weather conditions (ground frost) and how the work progresses.
Beginning this weekend, only local pedestrians will be allowed access to the grounds for the weekends. No public vehicles will be permitted to enter the property from Dixie Road.
Due to the overwhelming number of vehicles that have been coming into the property over the past two weekends, we have no choice but to restrict public vehicular access for safety purposes. Our main entrance is our fire route and we feel emergency access is being restricted with the large number of vehicles that are parked on the entrance route and surrounding area.

To keep it short…
This project is set to break ground after April 2021. The Lakeview Village project was already awarded Best New Community (Planned/Under Development) at the 39th annual BILD Awards.
The project will be developed on the site of the decommissioned Lakeview coal-fired power plant, creating a model for sustainable mixed-use development.
The 177-acre project will include thousands of residential units, from mid-rise to taller buildings, up to 9,000 long term new job opportunities, more than 800,000 square feet of employment space, over 100,000 square feet of retail space, economically sustainable and it will have activities for all 4 seasons! Whether that be food and beverages opinions, treats, coffee, retail or a boat rental.
For those of you that don’t know, there are plans in place to demolish Dixie Outlet Mall and replace it with a mix of uses including:
Enhanced Green Space: gardens, courtyards, a dog park, a natural creek, water features and a playground
Active Transportation: multi-use trails, improved bus access and safer crossings
Sustainable Design: low impact design, access to nature, green buffers and public art
Shops, Services and Amenities: fitness & health facilities, retail square, local retail, restaurants & patios and grocery store
A variety of housing: rental, affordable, live/work, housing for downsizers and housing for families
In the most recent “Open House” in December 2020 these plans to rezone this small space will accommodate 6,400 mixed residential units, including 17 high rise buildings. This will be a first for Mississauga development. The plans propose to increase the neighbourhood population by 12,000-15,000 people.
